Discipline

Hilltop’s teaching staff use positive guidance techniques when handling child behaviors. This includes redirection, following through with developmentally appropriate expectations, guidance talks, conflict mediation, and calming techniques. Teaching staff support children while facilitating conversations between children as they create solutions to problems that normally occur in the classroom. Techniques used provide children the ability to develop self control and self discipline, building positive self esteem.

Each classroom has a space set aside for children to use when they need to regain composure or maintain control when they are upset, angry or frustrated. A child may choose to use this space, or a teacher may direct a child to this space when the child’s actions dictate.
